Due to climate change and extreme weather, this summer has been one of suffering for so many, leaving many who survived flooding or fires homeless and without resources. Do something to help people weather the storm of climate change: identify someone who has been impacted by severe weather and provide something they need, or donate a meal through World Central Kitchen or a local organization providing aid. As you know, in Canada, a series of horrific discoveries has been taking place at the sites of former residential schools, proving the genocide of Indigenous children. Read this article to understand what happened and why the orange shirt has become an emblem for supporting Indigenous children, then create an orange poster design that reads “Every Child Matters.” (To avoid cultural appropriation, do not use Indigenous symbols unless you are personally Indigenous.) Post your poster image to social media with a link to https://www.irsss.ca/ or another Indigenous Canadian group to show support.
For the amount of time it actually spends in your hands commanding the video display unit to project reruns of favorite “Supernatural” episodes, your TV remote is woefully under-decorated. Fix that problem with some appropriate (or inappropriate) demon/ghost/vampire banishment/slaying adornment.
OK, we get it. Sometimes your official work assignments aren’t exactly the mind-challenging escapades that you deserve. So instead, you have taken to office art as an outlet for your creative and time-filling talents. It’s time for Office Art 2: The Reboot! Show off your very best, most impressive sculpture made entirely out of standard office supplies. It must include a sticky note didactic that says “GISH 2021” in the image.

Time to put a ring on it: At 2:00AM ET on Monday, August 2, Saturn will be in opposition. Capture the best photograph that you can of the planet Saturn at the moment of closest approach to Earth. Image processing (e.g. image stacking, focus stacking) is allowed, but the source images must be acquired within 12 hours of opposition (so you can do this one from anywhere in the world). – Dave L.
If there’s a key, then there must also be a lock: too many food banks get donations of canned goods, but that presumes that people experiencing homelessness have access to can openers. Help unlock access to food for people in need: donate a manual can opener decorated as a beautiful “key” along with some non-perishable food, if you CAN.
