Item 19 – Face Your Fears

CALLING ALL GISHERS: There’s one Thing you have always wanted to do, but you’re scared. Maybe it’s skydiving, riding a motorcycle, holding a tarantula, singing in public, or cliff diving… You get the idea. By the end of GISH week at least 3 gishers on your team will spit in the eye of fear, vanquish it and do their Thing. Submit a video compilation of each member of your team first explaining what they are scared to try (before they do it) and then, after they Do the Thing, telling us how it went.

Item 13 – Contagious Laughter

Laughter is contagious, and you’re “patient zero.” Lay on your back and have someone put their head on your stomach. Then keep adding to the chain of people (heads on stomachs) and make the longest chain of people you can— minimum 10 people. Then give a deep, sustained, belly laugh and let it ripple through your chain. Bonus points for the laughter chain with most participants, so spread the mirth like there is no cure. Post your video on social media using #GISHTHEBESTMEDICINE. Submit your video to us along with a link to your social media post in the comment field.

GISH App Challenge #5: GISH Bond

IMAGE. It’s easy to be convinced by life that we share nothing in common with people when we might be surprised by how alike we really are. Using the GEOGISH map in your app, connect with a Gisher who lives at least 500 miles from you that you do not already know (we are TRUSTING you on this, so no cheating or you lose 43,893 karma points). Direct message them on the app and try to identify the most startling, weird, unexpected, odd and happily surprising commonality you share. It can be an experience, personality trait, hidden talent, hobby, trait, anything, etc.

Celebrate your commonality on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and/or Tumblr) by posting two images side-by-side of both of you that exemplify your commonality. In the copy of the post, write a short description of this freakish connection. Use hashtag #GISHBond and make sure your post is public. The weirder, the wilder the connection, the better.

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend in the US – Macaroni necklaces are so passé. Everyone knows what moms really love are high-end fashion designer macaroni handbags. Create an haute couture handbag from any or all of the following: macaroni (or any other pasta), beans, or rice, inspired by a maternal figure in your life.

Post a photo featuring your fashion bag artistically displayed to social media (Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook or Instagram) tagged #BagByGISH by 13 May 11:59 PM PT for your chance to win! (Then, give your bag to a mom – if you don’t know one, find a local one on the GISH app!). Ten winners will be rewarded handsomely.

Item 180 – Silent No More

(Up to 30 seconds.) Cinema has evolved, but some actors don’t. Let’s see a silent film actress against a 1920’s style black-and-white-set. The actor/actress must have exaggerated facial expressions and the score must be nickelodeon-style piano music. Suddenly, the music changes… It’s hip hop and modern technology comes in with color and sync sound, but she’s still black and white and still mouthing words with title card.
